LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

WE ENCOURAGE OUR READERS TO WRITE TO THE FORUM to comment on matters of general public interest. We publish virtually all letters, regardless of their politics, providing they are in good taste, are signed by the author, and address a subject of broad concern.

To keep the Forum open to all, we request that you keep letters to about 350 words, and that you write no more often than once every two weeks. All letters are subject to editing.

CALENDAR LISTINGS

Any not-for-profit group can get an Upper Valley event listed if the event is open to the public and any applicable fee is specified.
Any individual sponsoring or organizing an event can get that event listed, with the same conditions.
Any for-profit company or organization can get special events listed if the events are open to the public and, in the judgment of calendar editors, are not primarily promotions for the company’s products or services.
Any membership organization can get special events listed if membership is open to the public and if membership is not too small to warrant publicity in a regional newspaper.
Valley News editors reserve the right to edit or exclude listings as deemed appropriate.
Photographs submitted for consideration should be sent by email as JPEG attachments to photo@vnews.com
The newspaper’s standard resolution is 200 dpi; the photograph should also be, at a minimum, eight inches at its longest dimension. Lower-resolution photographs from Web sites will not reproduce.
Be sure to get your calendar items to us at least four days before the event. For questions, call 603-727-3221.

OBITUARIES

The Valley News publishes obituaries of local interest as a public service. There is no charge. The deadline is 7 p.m. for publication in the following day’s paper. We consider obituaries to be news and seek to publish them as soon after death as possible.
All obituary notices are subject to verification by the Valley News, and for that reason must carry the name and phone number of the funeral home or cremation society handling the arrangements. The deceased’s connection with the Upper Valley and the name and phone number of the person submitting the obituary must also be noted.
Obituaries may be sent by fax to 603-298-0212 or by e-mail to "vnobits" (add "@vnews.com" to complete the email address). When submitting a photograph, note on the obituary that there is an accompanying photograph and send the image separately to photo@vnews.com. All obituaries should be followed by a phone call to the news desk, 603-727-3217, to ensure that they have been received.
